Contract Families

Become a Contract Family

Contract Families differ from Home Sharing or Short Breaks families in that each approved ‘Contract Family’ is self-employed and is contracted to provide a specific number of overnight breaks (usually 10, 16 or 20 nights per month) in return for a monthly retainer plus an allowance for each night of hosting & care provided. These additional expenses are based on the needs of the guest. There is a greater level of commitment required, compared to home sharing / short breaks and the guests usually have high dependency and complex health care needs. The duration of breaks will vary and contract families may have a succession of guests, to which they have been carefully matched with.

This is a rewarding role as it offers a child or adult the opportunity to make new friends and gain independence while allowing parents and other family members to step outside their usual routine.

All ‘Contract Families’ are fully vetted and approved and they attend appropriate training to prepare them to welcome their guests in a safe and enjoyable manner.

‘Contract Family’ schemes are still relatively new to Ireland (2007) but they are the fastest growing Hoe Sharing Short Breaks service here, as well as in the UK and elsewhere. They suit guests who require highly-supported and personally tailored breaks, and they are often, but not always, provided by people who prefer to work from home, offering reliable, flexible and fun experiences in a family setting.
