Guidance on Assessing Families with specific breeds of dogs

The NHSN advises Home Sharing Schemes and Host Families to undertake a risk assessment on specific dogs that Host Families may own. Certain breeds that are listed on the Control of Dogs Regulations, 1998 need to be considered.

This does not mean that a potential or existing host family are not able to host if they own one of the listed dogs. It means that it will have to be risk assessed on an individual basis. However, it may be determined that a home sharing family¬†can no longer host or start home sharing based on the risk assessment’s outcome.
