This new project is working to make Mayo a dementia friendly community and to provide new and innovative support services.  It plans to develop community based respite models which may include host families.

DeafHear Project

Expressions of interest are welcome from families within the deaf community in Co. mayo who are proficient in sign language and who might consider hosting adults who are deaf and who have additional needs such as intellectual disability, mental health issues, and/or social isolation, next year (2014).  The projectis currently recruitinghost families from the deaf community in Co. Galway.  It is hoped that this project will extend nationwide, with Co. Mayo likwly to be added next.

Homesharing

This scheme, run by Western Care Association, provides opportunities for increased participation and inclusion for children and adults, in their own communities. This can happen through varied home sharing experiences with individuals, couples, and families ranging from a day, an overnight, or a weekend to more fulltime accommodation arrangements.
